Mrs. John J. Pauls (nee Anna Voth) was born on Aug. 20, 1873, in Waldheim, South Russia, the oldest daughter of Cornelius and Cornelia (Heidebrecht) Voth.
During her infancy her parents emigrated to the United States and settled in the Inman-buhler area in Kansas. Here Mrs. Pauls received her elementary schooling.
On May 22, 1893, she was baptized as a believer by Elder Dietrich Gaeddert in the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church, of which she remained a member until her death.
On May 19, 1894 she was united in marriage to John J. Pauls. The Lord blessed this union with 13 children, of which one daughter and seven sons survive. they were privileged to celebrate their silver anniversary in 1919 and the golden anniversary in 1944.
In 1947 Mr. and Mrs. Pauls entered the Home for the Aged at Inman where Mr. Pauls passed away on Sept 3, 1947. Mrs. Pauls remained a resident there until the Lord called her Home. She quietly slipped away into eternal rest while taking her noon hour rest on Jan. 7, 1964.
For a number of years she suffered from neuralgia in her head which was so severe at times that she finally submitted to surgery, which gave her relief. during the latter part of October 1963 she fell and fractured her hip, but she recovered fairly well after a prolonged stay at Bethel Hospital in Newton, and was able to return to the Pleasant View Home on Nov. 15. Mrs. Pauls reached the age of 90 years, four months and two weeks.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Ediger of Hillsboro; seven sons, Ed., Curt, and Leonard of Inman, Abe, Alvin and John of McPherson, Kan., and Walter of Topeka, Kan.; one brother, John Voth of Inman; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Schmidt of Canada, Mrs. Minnie Regier of Newton, Mrs. Martha Friesen of Buhler, and Mrs. John P. Franz of Inman; 44 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, seven daughters-in-law and one son-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, Mary (Mrs. G. B. Martens) in June 1930, and Anna (Mrs. Pete Friesen) in June 1960, three sons in infancy, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 10 at the Hoffnungsau church with Rev. Dick Rempel and Rev. C. H. Voth officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Oct 17 2022, 17:09:52 UTC
