About Anna Olive Toland
Anna was said to be eccentric -- and her wild youth seems to indicate nature, rather than nurture. Anna was born in Dec. 1889 to Norwegian immigrants, Albert and Olive Olsen. Her father died in a violent factory accident in 1896, yet her mother gave birth to two more children: Her half-sister Mathilda Mae was born in 1900 and her half-brother William Laurence in '02.
Within five years, Anna had met, married (in Portland, Oregon??), and divorced a Norwegian immigrant -- John W Wickberg, a longshoreman born at sea during the voyage from Norway. At 28, Wickberg was a much older man (Anna was "18 and 11 months," the certificate childishly notes) She married Frank Nielsen in 1912, a year after the divorce, and moved to what must have been his family's dairy farm. By 1920, her 16-year-old brother William had joined her (and later his son William Olsen Jr. would work on the farm as well).
Later in life she was said to live in a cabin (like a fishing shack) over the river in Tillamook -- on the same road as Bill Olsen, Senior.
