Anna (Unknown) (1975 – 1991)

Brief overview:

Anna (16), (surname unknown, and name not recorded in official documentation), Maria Claudine Roux (46), Makoarela Dobani, and her husband, Wilson Dobani (50), were all shot and their throats slit, on 14th October 1991, at Ho-mar smallholdings, Clouds-End in Makhado (Limpopo).

Four members of the National Socialist Partisans - Cornelius Johannes van Wyk, Jean Prieur du Plessis, Johannes Jurgens Grobbelaar and Jurgen Matthews White, committed the crimes.

"Regarding the killing, on or about 14 October 1991 in the district of Louis Trichardt, of the following people (counts 2, 3 and 4 of the indictment).

Summary of facts: The applicant and one White went to the house of the third victim for purposes of stealing firearms and ammunition. They expected to find the first victim, who was the domestic worker. The plan was to tie her up. Instead, they shot her and then cut her throat. The second victim, her husband, unexpectedly arrived at the house; he tried to run away when he saw his wife's corpse. He was also shot and again, his throat cut. After entering the house, the applicant and White noticed that there was somebody inside a cupboard or wardrobe. Without examining closely, they opened fire. It turned out to be the third victim. Again, White cut her throat. The applicant says he became unhappy when he noticed that they had killed a white person, whom he regarded as one of their own. He was not worried about the other two black victims, as he did not value the life of a black person then. The applicant and White wanted firearms in order to enable themselves to raid other places for more arms and eventually recruit and arm enough people to overthrow the government."

  • JOHANNESBURG July 12 1996 - TWO AMNESTY APPLICATIONS TO BE HEARD IN PRETORIA
  • An amnesty application by two members of the obscure National Socialist Partisans will be heard by the Truth Commission's amnesty committee in Pretoria next week, the reconciliation body said in a statement on Friday.
  • The applications are from Cornelius Johannes van Wyk, serving sentences of life imprisonment on three counts of murder, and Jean Prieur du Plessis, who is serving 12 years for crimes including robbery, the theft of weapons from the SA Defence Force and illegal possession of firearms.
  • Van Wyk was sentenced in the Pretoria Supreme Court in September 1994 for the murders of Makoarela Dobani, Wilson Dobani and Maria Claudine Roux at Cloud's End, Louis Trichardt, in October 1991. Du Plessis was acquitted on these counts at their trial, but both men were convicted on seven other charges arising out of their activities.
  • Two other members of the NSP, Johannes Jurgens Grobbelaar and Jurgen Matthews White, died after being pursued in a stolen car by the police at Noenieput, near Upington, in November 1991.
