Biography

Ann Bachiler was born about 1600 probably in Wherwell, Hampshire, England[1][2]

In 1620, she married "John" Samborne.

On 20 Jan 1632 she married Henry Atkinson in Strood, Kent, England.

She died in England sometime after this date.

Early reports were uncertain whether Ann came to New England with her sons,

but according to the latest by Robert Charles Anderson in

"The Great Migration Begins," she did not (pg. 68).

"xxij Junii 1631: Steephen Bachiller aged 70 yeres

resident at South Stonham, Southt & uxor Hellen, of age xlviij yeres,

vrss fflushing to isit their sons and daughters there; & so to return wth in two moneths.

Ann Sandburn of age 30 yeres, widow, resident in ye Strand, vrss flishing." [3]

"The three sons of Anne Sanborne are said to have come to America

their grandather Bachiler in 1632, but apparently their mother did not come over."[4]

History of Rockingham County, NH -- Hampton By Charles A. Hazlett -- 1915 Chapter XXXIV HAMPTON Lieut. John Sanborn, with his brothers Stephen and William, came to Hampton in 1640. His mother was a daughter of the Rev. Stephen Bachiler. Lieut. Sanborn was an active, influential citizen, and was chosen to various positions of trust and responsibility. He was one of the most strenuous opponents of the Masonian claim and of Cranfield's administration. He was a signer to Weare's petition to the king in 1683.

Ann Bachiler was born about 1601, daughter of Rev. Stephen Batchelder of Hampton by his 1st wife.

She married first Unknown Sanborn by about 1620. She married second Henry Atkinson on 20 Jan 1631/2 in Strood, Kent.

She and her husband had three children:

  • Lieutenant John Sanborn,
  • William Sanborn, and
  • Stephen Sanborn.

The children travelled with their grandfather, the Reverend Stephen Bachiler, to Lynn, Massachusetts on the ship "William and Francis" in 1632. Anne however Did NOT emmigrate


Living in the Strand, London in 1630/31, she received license to travel in Flushing.
