Annie Albu was a celebrity and opera singer. She was educated chiefly at the expense of Lady Rosebury at the London Academy of Music and in Italy. She made her debut on the opera stage in Italy, appearing as Amina in la Somnambula, and repeated the same role in her debut on the opera stage in England at the Theatre Royal, Birmingham, in 1879. Engraved portraits of her are featured in volume eight of the Strand Magazine of 1894.
