Possible Ancestry of Ansel/Anselm Goodman of Bedford Co., VA Two Ancestry Theories

Theory 1: He was descended from one of the Benjamin Goodman lines in New Kent / Hanover VA in the late 1600s and early 1700s, probably from Benjamin’s son Robert, born ca 1699-1703, through presumed son Robert II Goodman, ca 1725-??, of Lunenburg Co., VA, parent county of Bedford.

DNA testing at FamilyTreeDNA.com also tends to support this theory, as the DNA results for other known and proven descendants from the Benjamin Goodman lines are very close matches to those of descendants of brothers John Goodman and Anselm Goodman of Bedford County, VA.

Anselm Goodman, listed as Ancil Goodman, killed, was not in fact killed. He was captured at the Blue Licks along with Daniel Boone by the Shawnee tribe and was in their custody for about 8 months. He was then was able to escape to the Falls of the Ohio. He then went on to return to Bedford County Virginia, reunite with his wife Edith Brown Goodman and father 8 children. His pension hearing in 1832 in Russell County Kentucky details this, with witnesses to the fact. He relocated to Wilson County Tennessee in late 1832, remarried to a Polly Watton, (Edith died in 1810 in Russell County Kentucky). He passed away in 1841 in Wilson County Tennessee.
