DEATH:

6. Logansport journal Tribune, 24 May 1876. "The Oldest Setller Gone

Mr. Anthony Barron, brother of Esquire N. B. Barron and of Mrs. Anthnoy Smith and uncle of City clerk Joseph G. Barron, died this morning at the residence of his son-in-law W. L. Wirick on the west side aged 62 years.

Mr. Barron was born in Vincennes, Indiana and came to this place in the fall of 1827 setlling near where Mr. John Lefert now lives.

His father was one of General Harrison's chief interpreters, and Anthony was almost as familiar with the Indiana language as he was with his own.

Many of the Journal readers will remember his eloquent address in the Pottawatomie tongue at the old settlers reunion last August

Of late years he has resided on his farm in Jefferson township until failing health caused him to seek the care and assistance of his daughter.

A few months ago he was appointed postmaster of Curvetown, in that township. At the time of his death, he was the oldest settler in this city and county. He was a quiet and peaceable citizen, a good neighbor, highly respected in all the relations of life.

He had seeneveyr step of the groweth and prosperity which has in the last half century transformed Indiana from a howling wilderness into the sixth [sixteenth] state in this great counrty, and Logansport from an Indiana Trading post into a fine modern city.

The history of his life would be excedingly interesting and we regret that we are compelled to leave the subject with this brief meager notice of a very few of its events; but we hope to return to the subject again, under more favorable, circumstances."
