Anthony Garibaldi

At his death Anthony Garibaldi lived at 7 Truman St, Nottingham (since demolished), he was a Piano Tuner and then later a general Labourer and then a News Vendor. He died at Nottingham 12th January 1969 aged 83. Anthony Garibaldi changed his name at some stage probably after 1918 to JOSEPH GREAVES which was actually the name of his Grandfather possibly simply because he didn't like the name GARIBALDI but then why change his christian name as well? He separated from his wife Katherine at some time between 1915 and 1939 as in the 1939 war census they were clearly living apart. Anthony lived with an Annie Hewitt who was then using the name Annie Greaves and Anthony the name Joseph Greaves. They lived at 7 Fisher Street, Nottingham . At that time he was listed as a Labourer.

At the same time in 1939 Katherine (Katrine) was living with a Walter Edward Robotham and she was calling herself Katherine Robotham then. They lived at 4 Bastion Street, Nottingham where she also died a few years later in 1946.

Anthony married Katherine Andrews on 26 July 1915 in Sheffield. Katherine had married Arthur Andrews in 1898 and had a daughter Catherine (Lee) and she was the informant on the death certificate of Katherine Garibaldi but by this time calling herself Catherine Robotham. Her daughter Catherine Lee lived at 2 Tunstall Crescent, Aspley, Notts at the time. It is not known what happened to Arthur Andrews although he is indicated as being deceased by 1925.

The signature on Anthony's Death Certificate of the informer is to a large extent illegible but it could possibly be H GREAVES. The informant lived at 108A Mansfield Road, Nottingham. After Katherine's early death in 1946 Anthony married again to Frances Bowler in 1956 at Nottingham.
