Accident No. 11 June 13th - Antonio Bessolo lost his life in the 28th level No. 6 shaft Hecla Branch of the Calumet and Hecla mine.

A party of timbermen had a skip load of timber sent down to the 28th level where the timber was to be taken out of the skip. The skip was a little too high to dump the car of rock into it and signal two and a half bells was given to lower it slowly. When the skip reached the proper place the signal was given to stop and the trammers started to dump the car and while they were doing so Bessolo went up in the shaft above the skip to take down the chains which were hanging on the timbers about eight feet above the level.

As soon as the trammers started to dump the car, the skip started to ascend without any signal being given to hoist. Bessolo caught onto the rope and was carried up the shaft about 200 feet when he must have let go his hold and have fallen to front of the skip. His body was seen rolling down the shaft until it was stopped by one of his partners who had gone up the shaft to look for him. Bessolo was taken to the 28th level where he died shortly after.

An inquest was held before Justice Cruse and after several witnesses had been examined the jury returned a verdict: "That Antonio Bessolo was accidently killed in No. 6 shaft Hecla mine June 13th 1893."
