He was born @ Wilkes Co., GA; his parents & siblings moved to Coweta Co., GA after 1826 & the "Cherokee Land Lottery" took place. He was among the earliest residents of Coweta Co. and was known by most as "Uncle Billy". He was married to wife #1 Nancy Cotton (1810-1855)-she was mother to five children.Married W#2 Apscilla Stroud Crenshaw 1867 (one son).

Apscilla Stroud is believed to be the d/o Isaac Stroud (b. SC) and Nancy (B. NC). She can be found with her mother, brother and young sister in the 1850 census @Coweta Co.,GA. She had previously been married to "Crenshaw" sometime prior to the 1860 census (living with John Stroud @ Coweta Co., GA). At that time she was a practicing "midwife".

Apscilla's only child son William P. Hindsman was b. Feb 1869. He was murdered by an unknown assailant May 1914 at Columbus, GA. He left behind a loving wife and 8 children. No arrest was ever made and no one was charged. He was a fine musician and active in the "Improved Order of the Red Men" fraternal society of Columbus, GA at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Masonic Order.
