

Not a known child of Wamsutta / Alexander, sachem of the Pokanoket or Of Corbitant
Mrs. Covell was, quite likely, a member of the Wampanoag Tribe which inhabited the Cape area at the time of her marriage to James. Local history sources from Martha's Vineyard have documented that her Clan (extended family) changed their names to Covell about the time of what is believed to have been the date of the marriage, i.e., a year or better before the birth of the first child,.
