About Archdeacon Samuel Williams
Samuel Williams, son of Henry Williams and Marianne Coldham, was b.Jan. 17,1822. He d. Mar. 14,1907.
He married his cousin, Mary Williams, daughter of William & Jane Williams, at St. Thomas's Church on Sept. 30,1846, 10 days after being ordained deacon. They had seven children, three of whom died in childhood. Their first year together was marred by a typhus epidemic which took, in addition to many others, Mary's brother, Thomas Sydney Williams.
He founded Te Aute college and tried to help the Maori people prepare for the influx of Europeans and their rush for land.
