About Archie R. Earp
GRANGEVILLE The funeral for Archie R. Earp, 79, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday August 26, 1995 at Noland Funeral Home at Grangeville. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery at Grangeville with fraternal rites by Mt. Idaho No. 9 AF & AM.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He died Monday August 21, 1995 of a heart attack at Syringa General Hospital at Grangeville.
He was born Aug. 2, 1916, to Len and Nellie Mires Earp at Grangeville, where he attended schools. He graduated from Grangeville High School in 1937.
While in high school he was an outstanding athlete, playing basketball and baseball. He also played semi-pro baseball at Walla Walla for a time.
Following his education he went to work for Pacific Northwest Telephone Co., where he worked for 40 years until retiring in 1978.
He married Eloise Snodgrass June 15, 1940, at Grangeville.
He was a referee for college and high school basketball games for a number of years. He served as president of the Grangeville Border Days Committee and was honored as grand marshal in 1985.
He was a charter member of Grangeville Elks Lodge No. 1825 and a member of Mt. Idaho No. 9 AF & AM and Mt. Queen No. 11 Order of the Eastern Star. He served as a past associate guardian of Job's Daughters. He was also a member and past president of Telephone Pioneers of America.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, camping, hunting and horseback riding. He made many trips into the mountains with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of Grangeville; one son, John Earp of Bonanza, Ore.; two daughters, Lynn Dufur of Mill Creek, Wash., and Mary Ann Profitt of Lewiston; one brother, Lester Earp of Lewiston; two sisters, Ruby Milsap of Lewiston and Marjorie Wren of Grangeville; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
