"His father and mother sailed from Scotland to America. Bought a ranch at Mobeetie, Texas, in Wheeler County, and raised black thoroughbred horses. Was a rich man. Had three children: Archie, John, and Euphemia. Had a private tutor for children. Arch left home at age 16 and went to work on the Shoe Bar Ranch (a mule shoe was brand). Then when free range was over he went up "old Chisum Trail" in Texas, with thousands of men, cattle and horses. In the meantime a man came up and talked Archie's parents into going to Canada to find gold and get rich quick scheme. Arch did not go. Arch's mother promised to let Arch hear about them when reached Canada. He never saw nor heard from them again. In his last year of life, Arch told Dottie Turnbull Houston that the Cheyenne Arapaho Indians were on the war path during the time his parents were en route to Canada, and Arch thought the wagon train of 2,000 or more wagons of people were killed."
