He was the son of the farmer Laurits Lorentsen, and his wife, Kristine Boletta Benjaminsdatter. Arne was christened on August 30th, 1897, in the Agdenes church in Sør-Trøndelag county. His godparents were: farmer Johan Johansen; farmer Nils Larsen, farm-hand or servant Johan Arnt Andreassen; wife Gurine Strand, and wife Oline Nilsdatter.

In 1900, the head of the household and fisherman Laurits Ludvigsen, and his wife, (Kristine) Boletta Benjanimansdatter, who was a fisherman's wife by occupation, lived with seven children and Martha's elderly mother, Marta Estensdatter, in the rural residence of Dybvik in Agdenes in Sør-Trøndelag county. Together, Laurits and Kristine had the following children:

Arne Meier Lauritsen Dybvik emigrated to the United States on June 3rd, 1916, via ship from the port of Bergen in Norway. His destination was Westroad in the state of California. Someone over in the United States had paid for Arne's boat fare so that he would be able to emigrate to the United States. Arne Meier Lauritsen Dybvik was an unmarried fisherman when he emigrated to the United States.
