About Aron Simon Rosenbacher
From Simon, Walter: The Simon - Rosenbacher family history, pp. 1-2: When ARON was 13 years old, his parents sent him to the old city of Praga, where he lived in the house of his uncle MARCUS BLOCH, his mother's brother. His uncle looked very well after him; he went to school, studied philosophy and it was his intention to become a rabbi. The old-fashioned jews in Praga did not trust him, because he had studied philosophy and made it impossible for him to work as a rabbi. Instead, he was introduced into the banking firm of his uncle, who even adopted him as his son and changed the name of the business to M. BLOCH & SON. Dr. ARON ROSENBACHER became a banker, but never stopped studying the talmud, later he dedicated much of his time to Mathematics and Astronomy. He became such a good astronomer, that his teacher, the famous REDTENBACHER, tried to make him his official assistant. This plan did not work out, because ARON never agreed to become a christian. ARON knew 10 languages, he was the first jewish Dr. in Praga. He married about 1829 KAROLINE THORSCH (called Leni), the daughter of MARCUS THORSCH, one of the most wealthiest and (at the same time) most religious men in Praga. ARON and LENI must have been quite busy, because they had nine children.
