Arthur Robert Bitner, Sr

Arthur Robert Bitner, Sr, 93, of 4882 Salem Church Road, Waynesboro, died at 12:20 p.m. Monday 20, 2009, in NMS Healthcare Center, Hagerstown, where he had lived since January. He had been in the care of his son since September 2007 and had been in failing health for the past year and critically ill for the last three months.

 Born July 10, 1915, in Antrim Township, he was the son of the late Robert B. and Avis Gail (Bell) Bitner. 
 He and his wife, Anna Elizabeth (Foreman) Bitner, were married Aug. 12, 1935, in Hagerstown. She died Dec. 9, 2007.
 Mr. Bitner was a lifelong farmer and farmed since 1951 on Salem Church Road. He also drove a school bus for the Waynesboro Area School District for 25 years.
 Mr. Bitner was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle.
 He enjoyed reading the newspaper and helping his friends and neighbors.
 He is suvived by one son, John E. Bitner of McConnellsburg; two daughters, Dorothy E. Boswell of Waynesboro and Betty L. Bitner of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchidren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
 Mr. Bitner was the last of his immediate family. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Arthur R. Bitner Jr.; one grandson Michael E. Boswell; two brothers, Walter "Pat" Bitner and Lewis K. Bitner; and three sisters, Julia Green, Anna Jumper, and Leah "Peg" Swisher.
 Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, with the Rev. Martin Horn officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
 The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Thursday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, Pa 17268.
