About Arthur James Harcus

Arthur James Harcus (1947 - 2005)

Brief overview:

Arthur (57), who won one of Africa's most famous off-road events, the Roof of Africa, in 1978, was confronted by four armed men as he got out of his Colt 4x4 to open a gate at his Greenside, Johannesburg, home on the 2nd Joly 2005. After the four had confronted Harcus, a struggle ensued and a shot was fired, killing him.

At the time of the incident, a neighbour, Hartford was having a braai at his house when he heard a commotion at Harcus's driveway, which was followed by the sound of a gunshot. On investigation, he found Harcus lying on the ground wounded and saw that his car was being driven away at high speed, followed by a Corsa. Hartford immediately called emergency services and the police, who responded promptly and chased the two accused and their accomplices.

Harcus's Colt, driven by Radebe, overturned, killing Radebe and injuring Mashinini. The accused and Nobadina were arrested.
