Arthur Francis Leader was born on 16 July 1876, in Eastern Bush, Otago, New Zealand, his father, James Francis Leader, was 25 and his mother, Evangeline Tuson, was 20. He married Sarah Nelson in 1911, in New Zealand. They were the parents of at least 3 daughters. He died on 2 January 1953, in Riverton, Southland, New Zealand, at the age of 76, and was buried in Riverton, Southland, Southland, New Zealand.
