Arthur was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and moved to VT about age 2. He lived in a house close to the river in St J and was flooded out when the river overflowed its banks. As an adult he always chose a home on a hillside. He left home after his 2nd year at St Johnsbury Academy, VT and and went to an uncles ranch near Calgary AL. He worked on the ranch then moved to northern ID where he was a logger in the Pine forest near St. Maries and Potlatch. Later he was employed as a milker on Jacobson's Dairy near Kellogg ID where he met his wife Dorothy Marie Wright from Kellogg who also was employed at the dairy. They married in Seattle WA around 1936. He was a trucker for awhile hauling Wikinson sandstone for construction. He became a journeyman Machinest employed by several firms: Mamco Mfg., Ballard Plastics, Northwest Metal Products in Kent, Issacson Iron Works in Seattle and finally Pacific Car and Foundry in Renton. He moved his family from Seattle to Kent WA in 1946. His wife Dorothy died of cancer and was buried in Kent WA. He retired from PACar in the middle 60's and moved back to St Johnsbury VT and married Jean Russell a high school sweetheart. He lived there until his death, was buried in St J Grove cemetery near his good friend and cousin Henry Rutledge.
