About Arthur Specter
Arthur was close to Josephine Specter. He came to the US first, went back to Russia _____. Mordechei Ben Zelig. Took his father's tobacco at age 5 1/2. Was born with only one kidney.
Beatrice's Specter's first husband. They got divorced because____, he went on to marry Lola in ____, after ___ years of divorce. Marvin seemed to have some contact with him, Rita less. But he did walk Rita down the aisle to give her away in marriage. He was said to be a dapper fellow.
Arthur Specter ended up in the furniture business. He worked to get furniture second hand from estate sales and any source. He dealt entirely in cash. He was in business with his brother Joseph Specter. They would call themselves "Schleppers". They had a truck, would go to a site that had second hand goods, pay for the lot in cash and then cart it all off. They would move from place to place holding sales., mostly in Ohio and Southern Kentucky.
Arthur would also serve to action off the things, and he was so good at it that he was hired at times to work as an auctioneer. Marvin says he sounded just like a tobacco auctioneer. Marvin at 14 years old would help to keep the books, when at the end of the sale he describes their being "piles of cash". He would carry around a clipboard and write down amounts.
Arthur also "had a pinky finger" in the automobile business. When Marvin was a late teen and a freshman in college, he had a Chevrolet 1945 four door sedan. He also worked together with Stuart Schott, a buddy whose daughter Marge Schott became the owner of the Cincinatti Reds. She was a powerful woman at the time and considered a "loud mouth Jew" (but nowadays might just be considered entrepeneurial)
