Artus Harding Fish was born on March 3, 1883 in Bristol, Rhode Island, to Alden B. Fish and Helen (Nellie) Harding. His father, Alden Fish passed away in 1884, and in 1885 his mother Helen was still living in Bristol and working as a dressmaker to support Artus and his older sister Florence who passed away in that year. On January 5, 1888, in Providence, RI, Helen married Benjaman Tanner who was born in North Kingstown in 1822, and the family moved to Providence. Benjamin died in 1889. The 1900 and 1910 censuses list Artus and his mother living at 201 Pearl St. in Providence, where Artus was Post Office worker. On September 19, 1911, Artus, 28, son of Alden Fish and Helen Harding of Bristol, RI, married Josephine H. Curran, daughter of Thomas A. Curran and Lavinia Forshner, in Attleborough, Massachusetts. The 1920 census lists Artus, 36, and Josephine 45, residing at 142 Wesleyan Ave in Providence, with Josephine's father, Thomas A. Curran, 73, and with no children.

On September 19, 1911, Artus H. Fish, 28, son of Alden Fish and Helen Harding of Bristol, RI, married in Attleborough, Massachusetts, H Josephine Curran, daughter of Thomas A. Curran and Lavinia Forshner.
