Arvel J. Riddle passed away peacefully on July 29, 2007, in Salt Lake City and was welcomed home by his family after a long life. Arvel was born in Antimony, Utah on December 7, 1911, the twelfth and youngest child of Thomas James and Emma Peterson Riddle.
He attended schools in Richfield, Utah and married Dorothy Rasmussen August 16, 1932, in Fillmore. Arvel served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II and was posted in Japan with the occupational forces for two years. He worked for Trailways Bus Company for 32 years as a driver before retiring and was justly proud of his sterling safety record. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed hiking, gardening and traveling all of his life.
Arvel was preceded in death by nearly all of his close relatives, including his parents; his wife Dorothy, his eleven brothers and sisters, his son Mayo Riddle and his daughter Sally (Thomas) Quinn. He is survived by his son-in-law Thomas A. Quinn of Salt Lake City, his five grandchildren, Mark (Robin) Quinn, Alison (Roger) Peterson, Melanie (Kevin) Smith, Michele (Taylor) Cardall, and Shannon (Ron) Jensen, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his longtime friend Julie Furner, who was his constant companion in his later years, and her family, who always befriended him and cared for him.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple. Interment will take place the same day, prior to the memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
