About Asaph Obed Light

We but briefly stated the death of Mr. Asaph O. Light in yesterday's NEWS, receiving the information only a few moments before going to press. Last Saturday a week ago he and Miss Emma Gilbert, of East Hanover, were united in holy wedlock at the residence of the bride's parents, where he was confined to a bed of sickness. The wedding was held at that time because it had been previously agreed upon, and the belief was that the young groom would speedily recover from his illness. Although their many freinds could not be present at the ceremony they were kindly remembered by numerous and costly gifts, and other expressions of friendship and good will. But so little do we know what Providence had in store for us. It is true, indeed, that whereas man proposes, God disposes. A week after the wedding the fever only came to fully develop itself and the sick man began to sink rapidly until yesterday at mid-day, the soul left its tenement of clay and winged its flight to its heavenly Father. Deceased was the youngest son of the late Associate Judge Joseph Light, of Avon, who departed this life about thirteen years ago. He had learned telegraphy some years ago and for several years served in various capacities on the Philadelphia & Reading railroad, having had charge of the station at Atlantic City one summer. He was a kind, affectionate young man, attached to the home of his childhood and many friends will regret that he can no more meet with them. He was an active member of the Avon U. B. church and led an upright Christian life, and gave evidence that he was going to a better country where loved ones awaited him just shortly before his death. The tear of sympathy flows for his sorrowing, aged mother and the weeping, grief-stricken young wife, as well as his friends, all of whom, can only find solace and comfort with Him who has said, "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee." Deceased was aged about 23 years, The funeral services will be held next Monday morning at 9 o'clock, at the home of his mother at Avon, whither the remains were today removed from East Hanover.
