Oshkosh (WI) Daily Northwestern, Wed., July 24, 1935, Page 16: "AGED RESIDENT DIES IN TOWN OF FREMONT
"Fremont, Wis. - August Frederick Arndt, 80, died at 11:45 o'clock Monday night at his home, five hours after he had suffered a paralytic stroke. He was born in Germany, July 4, 1855, and came to the United States at the age of 18 years. The family came directly to Fremont and six years later Mr. Arndt went to Milwaukee, where he was married Jan. 15, 1882, to Miss Amelia Fleishmann. In 1884 the couple moved to a farm in the town of Bloomfield where they lived until 1886 and since had lived on a farm in the town of Fremont. Mr. Arndt did carpenter work also for 40 years.
"His wife died June 7, 1933. She was the first gold star mother of this vicinity, their son, Eric Arndt, having been killed in action in France, July 28, 1918. The Weyauwega American Legion post was named for him.
"There were 11 children, eight of whom survive. They are Mrs. Charles Goetsch of Fremont; Mrs. Paul Mielke, Fremont; Mrs. Albert Kleist, Mosinee; Mrs. Henry Meyer, Oshkosh; Mrs. Jacob Scott, Shiocton; Albert Arndt of this village; Herman, town of Fremont; and Otto Arndt, town of Winchester. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Alvina Dubolz, Chicago, and 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
"Mr. Arndt was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran church of Weyauwega where funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, preceded by short services at the home at 1:30 o'clock. The Rev. Max Hensel will be in charge. Interment will be at Lakeside cemetery, Fremont."
