About August Johann Heinrich Boettcher

August John Boettcher, the child of August Boettcher and Catherine Minnerich Boettcher, was born November 28, 1885, in Hanover, Germany. On December 26 of that same year he was received into God's Kingdom of grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. In childhood he came to America and lived in Foster, Minnesota, where he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 26, 1899. On September 4, 1924, he was united in marriage to Luella Garberding at Zion Lutheran Church, Storm Lake, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Darlene and Darrell. For 22 years Mr. and Mrs. Boettcher lived at Albert City, Iowa, and then moved to Newell where they have lived for 24 years. In both places Mr. Boettcher worked at his trade of harness maker and shoe repairs. He was a faithful husband and devoted father and especially was proud of his grandchildren. He was also a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Newell and served as trustee of the church, sang in the choir and as long as his health permitted was a loyal member of the Men's Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and three sisters. Mr. Boettcher had been in failing health the past few years. Last May he underwent surgery at Bethesda Hospital in Fort Dodge. He never recovered from this surgery and on Saturday, August 29, it pleased the Lord to remove him from his pain and distress to this heavenly home. Death came to him at the Good Samaritan Center in Newell. He is survived by his wife, Luella, of Newell; by his son, Darrell, of Newell; by his daughter, Mrs. Paul Jilg, of Des Moines; by two grandchildren, SuAnn and Paul Jilg of DesMoines; by one sister, Mrs. Silvia Sies of Portland, Oregon; by two half-sisters, Mrs. Hilda Logsdon of West Linn, Oregon and Mrs. Martha Robins of Oregon City, Oregon; and by many relatives and friends. He attained the age of 84 years, nine months, and one day.
