He then admitted as a partner FW Keller formerly his chief clerk under the firm name of Rabe & Keller which still continues with offices opposite the City Hall Park on Broadway Mr Rabe was admitted to the New Jersey bar as attorney and counsellor in November 1894 Since 1870 he has resided in Hoboken Although Mr Rabe has devoted himself chiefly to the practice of law he has been active in public life In 1873 he was elected to the Legislature as an Independent Democrat from the district embracing the city of Hoboken He was re elected in 1874 1875 and 1876 and during the latter term was speaker of the House In 1876 he was a delegate to the National Democratic Convention which nominated Samuel J Tilden for President He was elected to the New Jersey Senate in 1877 and at the close of his term refused further political honors though urged to accept them Thenceforward he devoted himself wholly to his professional practice He has always taken a lively interest in Hoboken serving for many years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hoboken Academy He was one of the organizers in 1887 of the Second National Bank of Hoboken which he has continuously served as president In 1866 Mr Rabe was married by Rev Dr Morgan Dix rector of Trinity parish to Miss Elizabeth Lusby of New York City They have two children Caroline A wife of Richard Beyer of Hoboken and Rudolph F Jr a physician practicing in Weehawken NJ http://politicalgraveyard.com/bio/raab-radway.html#794.26.63
