August, called GUS, he had a permanent limp after an industrial accident where he worked in a flour warehouse and a stack of flour bags fell on him and damaged his leg. In Chickasaw he had a general merchandise store, the large family living above it. He constantly had a cigar in his mouth. The only way I ever saw him dressed was in a white shirt, suspenders, vest, along with a felt hat. He even did his gardening that way.
