OBITUARY August W. Sticha Succumbed Sunday At Age of 80 Years

August W. Sticha, 80, who lived in this community his entire life, passed away at his home at 10:55 p.m. Sunday, January 31, following an illness of about five years duration.

Born at St. Benedict on August 15, 1873, he was reared in that community and was married in New Prague to Mary Simek. During his youth he attended business school in Minneapolis. He was occupied as blacksmith until his retirement in the late twenties and for about 15 years worked in the city clerk’s office in New Prague. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World society.

Active in the affairs as a younger man, he served on the local school board for six years and on the city council for two years.

Funeral services were held from the Bruzek Funeral Home and from St. Wenceslaus church at 10:00 o’clock this morning, Thursday, with Very Rev. Cyril M Popelka intoning the requiem mass.

Pallbearers were M. F. Rybak, Thomas F. Rybak, C. J. Simon, R. P. Kamish, Alois Dvorak and William Timmons Sr. Interment was in St. Wenceslaus parish cemetery.

Mr. Sticha is survived by five children, Mrs. John F. Maertz (Alice) of Atlanta, Georgia; Mrs. Howard Juni (Anna) of Jordan; August F. Sticha of Phoenix, Arizona, and Celia and George of New Prague; and five grandchildren, Mary Alice and Majorie Maertz of Atlanta, Ga., and Mary Ann, Howard and Caroline Juni of Jordan. A daughter, Mary died in 1920 and seven brothers and there sisters are all deceased.

Those from out of town present for the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. John F. Maertz and Mary Alice of Atlanta, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. August F. Sticha of Phoenix, Ariz. and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Juni and family of Jordan.
