About Auguste Urbach

When Auguste Geborene Kalmann was born on 6 March 1894 in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany, her father, Jankel, was 35, and her mother, Pessi, was 29. She had one daughter, Ilse Urbach with Sally Simon Urbach in 1919.

Sally Urbach emigrated from Leipzig, Germany to Zutphen, Netherlands in 1938.

Ilse emigrated from Leipzig, Germany to arrive in Australia on 2nd May 1939. Ilse Urbach never saw her parents again.

On 17 June 1939 Ms. Urbach and her sister Goldine Gerson, emigrated illegally from Leipzig, Germany to Holland and from there to Belgium, where in January 1942 she met again with her husband, Sally Urbach, who had earlier fled the camp Gurs in south western France.

When the Urbach couple tried to flee to unoccupied France, they were arrested in Montauban, taken to the Leger Drancy outside of Paris.

On 2nd Sept 1942 the Urbachs were deported by the Germans from Drancy camp on the 26th transport which arrived at Auschwitz. It is the general held view that on arrival in Auschwitz Mr and Mrs Urbach were transferred to the gas chambers where they perished.
