In the fall of 1872 the parents of Augustave Spradley left Collirene, Alabama for Texas, along with a number of other kin (see notes for Bryant Eugene Spradley). There were three children then, Augustave (Gus), Amelia Ann and Willoby Eugene. Gus Spradley was 11 years old at the time. They left by wagon for Selma, AL, then boarded a boat for the trip down the Alabama River to Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, thence to New Orleans. They changed boats in New Orleans and sailed on to Galveston on the ship The Mary Susan, of the Morgan Line, arriving on Christma Eve, 1872. Then by ox wagon to Milam County to meet up with some of the Todd family in Milam County that had migrated to Milam Co., TX a few years earlier and had convinced the rest of the family to follow.
He was called Augustave on the 1880 census, Milam Co., TX. His Texas Certificate of Death calls him Augustine. Called Gus, Augusta, August on various census records.
Augustave "Gus" Spradley and (1) Hannah Minerva Maxwell had five children:
