Obituary
Mrs. Aune Rajala, age 84 years, resident of The Walford, 20 Pine Street, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Care Group, Hospice Unit, on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 with her loving family by her side. Aune was born in Murillo on December 22, 1923. She was employed by St. Joseph's Hospital and the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital during her working years. Her family was most important to her and she was a member of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission. Aune is survived by her son, Dennis (Flora) Koivuranta; daughter Nancy (Tony) Serravalle; two cherished granddaughters: Amanda (Eric) McGoey, and Kimberly Serravalle; sisters-in-law: Ellie Schween and Esther Mackie; nieces: Natalie Smith and Arlene Gailing; brother-in-law Alpo Koivuranta; and cousins: Mable Tuominen, Martha Davis, and Bertha Niemi. Aune is also survived by Herb's daughters: Linda (Naz) Vallelonga, David, Michael, Anthony and Lori (Don) Belle and Jason. Relatives in Finland, England and the U.S.A. also survive. She was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Eric Maki; husbands: Herb Rajala and Elo Koivuranta; three brothers: Eino, Reino, and John Maki; two sisters: Ellen Laine and Elma Smith; and a sister and daughter in infancy. Funeral Services for the late Aune Rajala will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2008, in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, officiated by Rev. Teemu Haataja. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Aune's memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, Northern Cancer Research Foundation - Breast Cancer Research, or to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.
