Austin was born at Amherst, Mass., May 31, 1795. While yet a child he came with his parents, Eleazer and Sarah (Cutter) Dana, to Weybridge, VT. They then resided in Bridport, VT for eight years. They then removed to Cornwall on to the General Summers Gale farm, after Austin married Susan T. Gale. Austin died on July 23, 1870. Austin served as Justice of the Peace in Cornwall in 1848, '49 and '53 and lister in 1851 and '53. As a young man, he served as a volunteer at the battle of Plattsburgh, September 11, 1814.
