  • In January 2006, Wonder Dumeko Mngade (27), who was arrested in December 2005, pleaded guilty to the murder and robbery in the Durban High court. Judge Piet Combrinck sentenced him to life imprisonment for the murder and 15 years for the robbery.
  • Mngade told the court that he had financial problems and could not support his girlfriend and children, so he planned to steal Austin's vehicle and sell it. "I went into the house and I asked him for the keys, but he refused. We ended up having an argument... I took my pocket knife and stabbed him in the chest several times until he fell down." Mngade sold the vehicle for R10,000, but didn't receive the full amount, obtaining only R5,000. He then spent the money on a camera, food, clothes and alcohol.
