"Nov. 3rd, 1858 at residence of her grandson, Mr. E. Kirby of Benton Co., Mo., Mrs. Avy Rice, relic of Andrew Rice, late of Cole Co. in the 71st year of her age. She was born in Shenandoah Co. Va. At the age of eight she removed to Kentucky, where she joined the Baptist Church in 1815. At the time of her death she had been a member of the church over 43 years.

"Sister Rice came to Mo. with her husband, in 1819. She not only contributed much to the support of a large family, but also to the obtaining of a respectable position in society.

"She died while on a visit to some of her relatives. Finding her dissolution approaching, she addressed her daughter, who accompanied her, in the language of pious resignation, desiring her to tell her friends not to mourn for her, but by Christian lived prepare to meet her hereafter.

"Though a beautiful place of internment was on her farm in Cole Co. She was at her own request buried where she died observing that 'all the earth is the Lords' (her body was later removed to Rice Cemetery)."

Andrew Rice and Avy Owens were married October 30, 1806 in Green River, Kentucky.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Aug 16 2021, 14:27:40 UTC
