About B. Sumati Amma
A strict vegetarian
Was the third child of G.Bhageerathi Amma. She was married to P.K.Gopalan Nair, nephew of PN Krishana Pillai. She was the fairest of all the children. She talked very little. She spent her married life with her husband at Karunagapplly.
Nalini was the only daughter in law who lived with her and there was not a single instance when she got angry with Nalini. She never spoke ill of Nalini. For all her personal matters she wanted Nalini's service till death. She was never heared of complaining about any thing or any one. Always wore white 'blouse', white 'pudava' and white 'neriyathu'. She lived in the midst of immense wealth.
She was compassionate and was eager to help those around her. Her constant [daily] comapnions were,Rukmini Amma, Kunji Ppillai, and 5 muslim ladies. Kunji Ppillai stayed with her and managed the kitchen. Rukmini Amma had no special work other than conveying the spicy news of the locality. The muslim ladies were the persons who pound the paddy. Those days there were no rice mills
She had blood pressure and had a week heart. Later in life she had hearng problems too. She lived till 67. Never been in hospital for long periods She succumbed to a heart attack.She was cremated in the Krishna Vilas compound, Kumarapuram, Trivandrum.
She loved her younger daughter Ambika and her children very much. Her last days were at Gopal Nivas, Kumarapuram,Trivandrum with Ambika and family.
