- Two suspects, Johnny du Plooy and Shaun Oosthuizen were, were arrested for her murder. They were linked to various other murders of older people.

- The trial took place at Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court. After numerous hearings, the pair were convicted of the murder of Barbara, and found guilty of aggravated robbery on December 9th 2019, and sentenced on December 11th 2019.
- The accused admitted that they tied her legs with a blue cloth and covered her mouth with cloth. They also admitted to stealing jewellery before they left her Barbara's house.
