Barbara Leona Frevold

FREVOLD Barbara Leona Chappell Frevold, age 78, passed away from this life on February 15, 2008 in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Barbara was born in Jacksonville, FL on November 11, 1929 to the late Dr. Arthur George Chappell and the late Edith Ione Smith Chappell. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, received her BA in Education from Florida State University, and her Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin. She was a member of Pi Lambda Theta, National Organization For Women In Education, and Daughters of the American Revolution. Barbara taught school in Jacksonville (Robert E. Lee High) and Clearwater, FL before retiring after a 30 year career in education. Barbara loved music and was a Soloist for many years in the Trinity Lutheran Church Choir Jacksonville, FL where she was a member under the direction of Don Baber, choirmaster- organist before moving to Clearwater, FL. She also sang in the Riverside Baptist Church Choir, Jacksonville, FL with her sister the late Frances Chappell Shinton under the direction of Edward Bryan, Director of the Choir and Organist, and performed at the Friday Musicale, Jacksonville, FL during the 1950's. Barbara enjoyed crafts, in particular, cross-stitch projects and was an avid reader. Barbara spent her last few years at the Ocean View Nursing Home in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Alfred Frevold of Port Orange, FL, one step daughter, Mrs. Janet Matthews, Safety Harbor, FL; four step sons, Mr. Eric Frevold, Huntsville, AL, David, Donald and Dana Frevold all of New Port Richey, FL; one sister, Mrs. Johanna Chappell Britt, Martinsville, VA; one brother, Mr. Arthur Chappell, Lakeland, FL; and many other relatives and friends. A Graveside service will be held in her honor on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL with the Rev. Paul D. Carmichael officiating.
