Barbara Bjelkström was murdered by a gun shot in Edsåker, Ljustorp, Sweden, in 1865.
The convicted murderer was the last person to be executed in the county of Västernorrland. Capital punishment has not been practiced in Sweden since 1910. Pehr / Petter Hedin from Stavre, Ljustorp, born 1835-07-31 in Gårdtjärn, Sättna, was beheaded in 1866-02-14 in Kallbäcken, Häggdånger. He was the son of the crofter Peter Segerson and his wife Carin Pehrsdotter.
Barbaras' husband, the blacksmith Lars Nyberg, born in 1820, was sentenced for instigation in the murder. He claimed that he had an unhappy marriage. He spent nearly 21 years at the fortress of Varberg and at the Landskrona central prison.
The boatswain soldier Olof Boväng, born in 1839, was hired by Lars Nyberg,to carry out the murder, but chickened out. However, he provided the gun to his crony Hedin, and therefore had to spend almost 22 years at the fortress of Varberg and at the Landskrona central prison.
Lars Nyberg's mistress Brita Lisa (Elisabeth) Mattsdotter, born in 1826, widow after Jon Mattsson, had to do time at the Norrköping prison for instigating the murder.
