About Barend Jan de Lange
Barend "Ben" de Lange (1962 - 2002)
Brief overview:
Ben (40), and his pregnant wife, Jacoba Petronella de Lange (33) were both shot dead at their Boshoff Street, Randfontein home, when a gang of four armed males invaded their property on 2nd August 2002. Ben was shot in the back, and Petro in the chest. Petro's body was found in the kitchen, and Ben's 100m from their front gate.
The couple was having a braai, with family and friends, when the armed gunmen scaled the wall into their garden. After Petro, who was due to give birth in two weeks, was shot, Ben chased after the perpetrators. When he tried to run away, they shot him in the back.
"The gunmen did not say anything to any of the people at the braai - they just started shooting," Captain Paula Nothnagel said.
