Barnes Allen was the son of Israel Joshua Allen and Rachel (Whiteman) Allen. Barnes first married 19 July 1840 , Tyler County, WV to Nancy George, the daughter of Absalom & Amelia (Underwood) George. Nancy died between 1845 and 1849 and Barnes Allen married 2nd of July 1849, Doddridge County, WV to Nancy Agnes Baker. Listed in the 1850 census in the Barnes Allen household were his sons by his first wife, William A. Allen and Preston F. Allen, his second wife, Nancy Agnes and her son Charles Lewis Allen. Barnes and Nancy Agnes would have a daughter, Elizabeth Allen, born 1851. It is not known just what happened to Barnes Allen. the story handed down is that he left home, perhaps for work someplace or whatever, anyway he never returned. This left his wife with four small children children to raise. By the 1860 census the two oldest sons, William A. & Preston F. Allen were listed in their maternal grandfather's household, Absalom George. Nancy Agnes (Baker) Allen then second married Samuel Woodburn.
