OBITUARY-
Baron Nathan Gaines, 95, of Parkersburg died Monday Nov. 8, 2010, at his residence. He was born in Jane Lew, W.Va., a son of the late Harley D. and Lovey C. (Hardman) Gaines.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran having served in WWII. He was a farmer until 1942, served in the military from 1942-1946, a home builder from 1947-1949, and was in retail coal sales from 1949-1970. He volunteered at the Oil and Gas Museum.
He is survived by his brother, Raymond D. Gaines of Columbus, Ohio; five nieces, Barbara Drew of Clarksburg, Helen Warner of Lost Creek, W.Va., Maybeth Taylor of Jane Lew, Susan Christy of Alpharetta, Ga., and Barbi Vartanian of Tampa, Fla.; and a close friend, Pat Groves of Parkersburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Marie (Lawson) Gaines, and a brother, William Dallas Gaines.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with the Rev. Dan Bryan officiating. Burial will be at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post 15.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday.
