Death 1781 Westchester Square, Bronx County, New York, USA
Burial Joseph Rodman Drake Park Bronx, Bronx County, New York, USA

On 24 January 1725, he was named as son Basil in the will of John Bartow of Westchester, NY. His father bequeathed him lands in Middlesex NJ. Basil lived on the family homestead with his mother, and after her decease resided there until his death.

In 1744 he was appointed by the Propagation Society the Schoolmaster of the Parish of Westchester under the Crown, which position he held for 19 years. The History of the Protestant Episcopal Church records: "Upon the earnest petition of the churchwardens and vestrymen of St. Peter's Church, Westchester, the Propagation Society appointed Mr. Basil Bartow, school-master of the parish in 1744." The King's Commissary transmitted the following account of this individual:-- "that he is son to the Rev. John Bartow, late the Society's worthy missionary there. He is a person of good temper, sober, and pious, and well affected to the present government; conformable to the doctrine and discipline of the church, and exceedingly well qualified for the instruction of children." He is listed on page 123 among the principal benefactors of St. Peter's Church, because he left L50 towards the building of a new church in the Town of Westchester, or the enlarging of the present church, for the worship of Almighty God, to be paid to them when they shall actually engage in said work. He was a slave owner in 1755 slave census.

Basil married (1) by marriage bond 29 June 1757, Mary Quinby, by whom he had no children. He married (2) Clarina Punderson, by whom he had three sons and three daughters.

The will of Basil Bartow is dated 16 December 1770, proved 17 December 1781. It leaves: "To wife Clarina all goods that are remaining which she brought with her, and was her own property at, or before, our marriage, and the use of the room called the Parlour, and the chamber over it. To daughter Clarina, L800. To son Punderson Bartow, all lands, buildings and salt meadow I bought of Sarah Hunt and her son Gilbert, also the lot of salt meadow called the Parsonage Lot, and the lot and buildings called Haddens Lot, bought of my brother John Bartow. Also a lot adjoining, bought of Duncan Reade, also a lot of wood land lying at the north part of the low Swamp, adjoining to my brother John, and my 1/2 of 1/2 of 2 lots of upland and 2 water Lots at New York, which my brother John and I bought of the devisees of Abraham Van Horne and the Corporation of New York. The water lots were granted to my brother John, and he released 1/2 to me. Also 1/2 of my right on Minifords Island, or the New City, so called; and 1/8 of a farm in the 9 Partners in Duchess Co, which we bought of John Bugbee. To son Basil John Bartow all lands called the Homestead, with the buildings, except a piece of land in the field on the Hill adjoining the Old Orchard, 3 rods square, and staked out for a burying ground, for myself and children, and brothers and sisters, which I grant for a burying ground forever, with right of passing to and from the King's road, through the Old Orchard. Also my land and salt meadow called ( ), and a lot of land called Scabby Indian, being all the lands and meadows devised to my brothers and myself by our father, and now vested in me by release from my brothers. Also L25 commanage in the Sheep Pasture of Westchester. Also the land called the Parsonage land, and the land I bought of John Oakley, and the lot of land and meadow called the Causeway Lot, adjoining the Great Creek, and the lot I bought of Hester Nicholl. Also 1/2 of 1/2 of the lots and water Lots in New York, and 1/8 of the farm in the 9 Partners, and 1/2 the lands on Minifords island or the New City. To St Peter's Church in Westchester L50, towards building a new Church or repairing the present one. My earnest desire and request is that my wife and my executors take special care that my children be virtuously and religiously educated, and kept from associating with vain and idle company."

The will makes wife and brother John and nephew John, son of Theophilus Bartow, and Rev. Samuel Seabury executors. (Liber 34. P. 447)
