Beatha Ofstdahl

Funeral services for Miss Beatha Nelson, 71, were held Wednesday afternoon from the Hamre Funeral home here and the French Creek Lutheran church. The Rev. Johan Olson, pastor of the French Creek church, of which the deceased was a member since childhood, officiated, and burial was in the adjacent cemetery. Miss Nelson's death shortly afternoon Monday followed an illness of but a few days, resulting from pneumonia and heart trouble. She was a native of Norway, born at Biri Jan. 15, 1866. She came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bore Nelson at the age of 12 years, the family settling in Abraham's Coulee in the town of Gale. Later they moved to a farm in the French Creek valley, living there until eight years ago, when with her two brothers she purchased a residence on Galesville's east side section. Four years ago, while driving to church in French Creek, the Nelsons were in an auto accident which resulted in the death of the brother, Hans, and serious injury to Julius and Beatha. Since that time, the brother and sister bought two properties in Galesville, moving into the last one in the past fall. The brother, Julius, and one sister survive, the sister being Mrs. John Gilbertson, Ettrick. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive, those in Galesville being Mmes. W. H. Sievers and T. G. Herried. Four nephews, Eugene Herried, Ben Nelson, Alfred Nelson and Emil Nelson, were among pallbearers today, others being Anton Anderson and Ingvald Scarseth.
