MRS. BELLA LEVEY TAKEN BY DEATH
Mrs. Bella Pokorny Levey, widow of Moses E. Levey, president of a chain of hat stores here, died Tuesday at 9:15 p.m. at her residence, 311 Audubon Boulevard. She was 80 years old.
A native of New Orleans, Mrs. Levey was the daughter of Michael Pokorny and Fannie Singer. Mr. Pokorny founded about 90 years ago the shoe store now known as M. Pokorny and Sons. Ltd. in which Mrs. Levey owned the major share. Her husband was president of the Stafford Hat Stores.
Mrs. Levey was a member of the Temple Sinai Sisterhood, the Touro Infirmary Sisterhood, the Council of Jewish Women and was active in affairs of the New Orleans Club. She was also a member of the New Orleans Philharmonic Society and the Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre.
She is survived by two sons, Harold A. and Ralph P. Levey, and a sister Mrs. Coleman E. Adler. Funeral arrangements were not completed Tuesday night pending the arrival of her son, Ralph, president of M. Pokorny and Sons Ltd. from New York. Interment will be in Metairie cemetery.
