About 1759 he and his brother, Benjamin moved to Onslow Co., NC.they lost their parents before they became of age and lived with a cousin Benjamin Hull. He was a Representative to the State Assemblies of 1775-6. He was one of the delegates to the Convention, 1776, which wrote the constitution of the Colong. He was a member of the House of Commons of NC 1777-8. He married second in Onslow Co., abt 1774 to Elizabeth Chatwin. He died in Onslow Co. in 1780. By his 1st wife he had a daughter Hester Doty who married Eleazor Brack

Benajah Doty (son of James Doty and Phebe Slater) was born Abt. 1723 in Piscataway, New Jersey, and died Bet. October 22 - November 15, 1780 in Onslow Co, North Carolina. He married (1) Elizabeth Farr in Probably New Jersey.

According to "Mayflower Families Through Five Generations. Volume Eleven, Edward Doty", page 45: "Benajah Doty is last recorded in New Jersey on 16 July 1751, when her performed an inventory of the estate of William Rogers of Piscataway NJ. He is first recorded in North Carolina on 15 Ap4 1758 as cornet in the Craven Co. NC militia. He was in ONslow Co. NC by 1771 when he was listed as a taxpayer.
"He was a member, for Onslow Co. NC, of both the Provincial Congress and the General Assembly from 1776 to 1778.
"The will of Benajah Doty, signed 22 Oct. 1780, proved 15 Nov. 1780, names his wife Elizabeth; Hester Brack; Faber Doty; dau Nancy Worrin, to whom he gave the 100 acres "she now lives on"; two sons Lemuel and Benajah, to whome he left his grist mill; and James [prob. not yet 21 y of age}. The will was witnessed by Frank Chatwin, among others."

The DOTY-DOTEN Family Book, 1897, page 297 says this about Benajah "He was married twice. First, perhaps in New Jersey, but the name of his wife is not been discovered, nor is it known by is descendants. He married second, Onslow Co., NC, about 1774, Elizabet Chatwin, born probalb NC orSc, 1737. She lived to the age of 101 years, and her grandson, Rev. William Edward Doy of Greenwood, La., who has furnished many of the facts in the early history of this branch, remembered hearing her tell how, during the Revolutionary War, she lived in NC, and have buried her effects and property in the ground, she helped to make potato hills oer them to conceal them from the Tories. Benajah Doty died in Onslaw Co., NC, 1780. His widow married second a man name Willie, or Wylie, and by him had a daughter, Sarah Ann, who married Hugh Kader Harrel, and their daughter Elizabeth married John Chatwin Doty. She married third, __ __Cottrell, and fourth, John Turner, but survived all, and died at the residence of her son James Doty, at Hernando, DeSota Co., MS, on her birthday, 1838 at the age of 101 years. Children by his 1st wife:" F - Elvinia married Eleazor Brack, who fought in Revolutionary War and is buried outside Augusta. I have visited his grave. F - Rachel married James Warren 1st and then William Calhoun on 2/8/1792 in Richmond Co., GA. She is buried in Twiggs Cemetery, Richmond Co., GA. I have visited her grave.

I am descended from Elvinia Brack. He daughter Lavinia married Elijah Anderson and they moved to Alabama. My great-grandmother, Sarah Anderson, daughter of Elijah Cumbie Anderson and Elizabeth Sansom, married 1st Albert Tarver, 2nd William Edmund Davis. My maiden name is Davis.
