!Benjamin F. Barton Jr., son of Benjamin and Dorcas (Anderson) Barton, settled Texas before the Revolution and was involved in the Texas Moderator-Regulator War. He is said to have been the last person to be killed in this war. His gravesite is located under a large oak tree along Highway 80 just outside Marshall, TX, and is on the list of registered landmarks of Texas. !Event: Death Note Ben had been on a horse trading expedition in Louisiana when he was ambushed near his home,robbed,and killed by hanging from a tree.
!Residence: Came to the Republic of Texas,Harrison County,about 1842. Bought 640 acres from Sam Gholson,from a part of a league of land surveyed for Arthur Horn.
!Occupation: Engaged in farming,horse trading,and clearing of land.
!His grave is near where he was killed and is marked only by a triangle which is "never to be disturbed" (fram a land deed). Grave on Hwy 80 west of Marshall, Texas.
