About Benjamin Briggs

Benjamin Briggs was a very prominent citizen in Tazewell County, during its first years of organization. When the county was considered large enough to organize, he was one of 3 County Commissioners elected. He served as County Commissioner from 1827-30 & 1831. Other offices he held were County Coroner in 1831, County Treasurer from 1835-36 and 1837-39 and Sheriff from 1840-44.
