About Benjamin Chambers
He was the son of Col. James Chambers (1743-1805) and Catherine (Hamilton) Chambers (1738-1820). He served as a Lieutenent of the 1st. PA Reg. before age 16. Benjamin first married Ruth McPherrin, the daughter of the Rev. Thomas McPherrin, on Dec. 27, 1796. While living near Cincinnati, he married Sarah Lawson Kemper, the daughter of the Rev. James and Judith (Hathaway) Kemper, on July 22, 1801. Benjamin was one of the first surveyors of southeastern Indiana. He served as a common pleas court judge in Indiana from 1803 to 1805, and was a member of the Indiana Territorial Council in 1805. He moved to Missouri about 1820. He served as the first Clerk of Saline County, serving for sixteen years. He married Jane Woolridge (sometimes spelled Wooldridge), his third wife, November 20, 1837, in Saline County, MO.
