Benjamin F. Cooley was born in Randolph County April 11, 1836 and died Sunday July 18, 1909 being 73 yr. 3 mo. And 7 days old. He was of a family of eleven children; four brothers and one sister survive him. They are Jess and Press of Macon County, John and Will of Kirksville and Mrs. Mary Nichols of Eldorado, Mo. They were all present at the funeral but Jess and Mrs. Nichols.
He moved to Macon Co. with his parents when he was 2 years old where he lived until 1858 when he was married to Susan Lawson Feb. 11, he then moved to Putnam Co. where he lived up to the time of his death with the exception of a short time. To this union six children were born all of whom survive him but the youngest Amandae E. who died when she was four years old. The surviving ones are Thomas J., William M., Mrs. Mary Hendricks, Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts and T.H. They are all residents of the county but Mrs. Roberts who resides in Kirksville and were all present at the bedside of their father before his death.
Everything was done that loving hands of wife, children, friends and neighbors could do to do avail. He united with the Christian church early in life, ad while conversing with some of his friends a short time before his death he said that he had no fear of death and was ready to go any time. His friends were numbered by the score. He was always
kind to those about him and attended to his own business and troubled no one. He was a kind and loving husband a tender and patient father, he bore his sufferings with greatest patience hardly ever complaining during his long
illness.
The funeral service was held at the Baptist church Monday at 1 0'clock by Bro. Laben McFarland. The floral offerings were very beautiful. There was one of the largest crowds at the cemetery that ever gathered there at a funeral. The Press extends its most sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
